Bernedoodles are a cross between a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Standard Poodle. Because the Bernedoodle is a hybrid, they are non-shedding and better for families with allergies. The Bernedoodle (also known as the Bernepoo) is a striking, large dog, with eye-catching colors. They are sturdy and balanced. They are intelligent, strong and agile enough to do the daft and droving work for which they were used in the mountainous regions of their origin. Male dogs appear masculine, while bitches are distinctly feminine.
What makes the hybrid breed awesome
The Bernese Mountain Dog is a double-coated breed, they also tend to shed and so require regular brushing. In order to change that in the breed, we cross them with our fleece-coated champion bred Standard Poodles. Their gentle, easy going manner and the need to be close to people makes them a good fit for families.
The Bernedoodle is a steady-tempered and easygoing. However, their calmness and willingness to laze about doesn't mean they can be cooped up without exercise. Indeed, the Bernedoodle loves getting out, especially in cool weather - with their thick black coat, they can still do well in warm climates. Romping in the snow is a favorite form of recreation for this Alpine breed, and pulling carts and sleds is a wonderful source of exercise, especially if it involves children.
Their attitude toward strangers is generally friendly, but a Bernedoodle should remain poised and hold his ground. A Bernedoodle puppy should have lots of socialization so that their confidence in public will shine through.
Most Bernedoodle Dogs are peaceful and sociable with other animals
Responsive to obedience training in a fast-paced, good-natured way, this sensitive breed should be handled kindly with much praise and encouragement. However, they are not complete pushovers to train -- some can be a little hardheaded and dominant especially males, and especially during adolescence.
As puppies we can spot great variability in size -- some individuals are medium/large and quite athletic. While others are huge and ponderous (especially males)
